TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Franklin College volleyball team opened the 2024 campaign on Friday (Aug. 30) morning with games against Goshen and host Saint Mary of the Woods at the Pomeroy Invitational.
The Grizzlies (0-2) fell in both contests, dropping a straight-set decision to Saint Mary of the Woods (5-0) in the morning and another three-setter to Goshen (4-8) in the afternoon session.
Game One: Saint Mary of the Woods 3 – Franklin 0
33-31, 25-14, 25-19
The first set saw the two teams exchange several lead changes and combine for 31 total kills in the game. But the hosts would take control of the momentum with three of the final four points to snatch the game, and the Pomeroys would hit at least .400 in each of the final two sets to claim victory.
Junior
Hope Moring finished with a team-high eight kills and hit .571 for the match.
Brionna Linkel handed out 16 assists and set a career high with five kills while
Emily Holmer led the team with five digs.
Game Two: Goshen 3 – Franklin 0
25-19, 25-15, 25-17
Attacking efficiency was the story in game two, with the Maple Leafs hitting .269 for the match to .162 for Franklin. Junior
Kaitlyn Lavy topped the Grizzlies with nine kills, followed by six from Moring and four from
Makalyn Miller. Linkel dished out 17 assists in the match and Moring's eight digs were tops among all defenders.

Franklin is back in action on Saturday (Sept. 31) for the final two games of their weekend tournament. Franklin will face IU-Columbus at 9:00 a.m. before battling Boyce College at 3:00 p.m.
