RECAP | Women's Soccer Drops Close Battle with Quakers in Season Opener

FRANKLIN – The Franklin women's soccer team kicked off the 2024 campaign under the lights at Faught Stadium with a matchup against the Wilmington Quakers.
 
The Grizzlies (0-1) battled the Quakers (1-0) tight but a second half goal from the evening's guests proved to be the decider as Wilmington won 2-1.
 
How it Happened
After conceding the opener in the 24th minute, Franklin got back to even in the 27th minute when a long cross deflected in off of a Wilmington defender for an own goal. The two sides played an even opening half, but the Quakers would ramp up the pressure in the second half and get the game winner on a counter attack in the 65th minute.
 
Inside the Box Score
-Shot attempts were 18-9 in Wilmington's favor, with the Quakers out-shooting Franklin 12-3 in the second half.
-Lauren Barker led all Franklin player with five shot attempts and two shots on target.
-Nine Grizzlies made their Franklin debut in the game; Avery Hamilton, Sydney Lovett, Amani Kinkaid, Jorja Long, Shelby Rendes, Erin Holtzman, Issy Pridemore, Courtney Leap and Madalyn Levell.
-Makenna Mundy turned back nine shot attempts in her 36th straight start for Franklin.
