LEXINGTON, Ky. – A place in the championship game of the 2024 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Softball Tournament was up for grabs on Friday (May 10) evening, with second-seeded Franklin meeting top-seeded Transylvania in the winner's bracket.
The Grizzlies (27-13) struggled to get their bats going and one big inning made the difference, as the Pioneers (33-8) claimed a 5-0 win and can clinch the conference tournament title tomorrow afternoon.
How it Happened
The Pioneers got all of their offense in one inning, plating five runs in the second inning with five of their six hits coming in the frame. On the flip side, the Grizzlies recorded just two hits on the afternoon, with a second inning
Karrsen Pruitt single and seventh inning double from
Molly Wallace accounting for all the offense.
Lauren Duncan (14-6) lasted 1.2 innings with six hits allowed and four earned runs surrendered.
Stephanni Kleber entered in the second and tossed 4.1 innings of perfect relief.
