RECAP | Baseball Drops Elimination Matchup with Anderson on Friday

KOKOMO, Ind. – The Franklin College baseball team took part in the first elimination game of the 2024 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Tournament, facing off against fifth-seeded Anderson with both teams putting their conference tournament lives on the line.

Franklin (20-22) saw their season come to a close at the Ravens' (24-18) hands, with Anderson jumping out to an early lead and hanging on for an 11-7 win.

Things started off well for the Grizzlies thanks to an RBI single from Anthony Smith in the top of the first. Garrett DeHart added an RBI ground out in the third, but Franklin was done in by nine Anderson runs in the first three innings. Franklin plated two runs in both the fifth and seventh innings, respectively, but couldn't scrape across any more runs over the final two frames.

Seven different Grizzlies had a hit in the game, with AJ Sanders notching a triple and Tysen Lipscomb, Sean Sullivan and Adam Taylor recording a double each. Smith led the team with two RBI in the game.

Jackson Young (3-7) got the start and went two innings on the mound. Dylan Sprong closed out the final five innings, giving up three hits and recording four strikeouts.
