FRANKLIN - The Franklin softball team welcomed in-state foe DePauw to Behrens Field on Thursday (Apr. 18) afternoon for a pair of non-conference matchups.
As the old saying goes, all good things must come to an end and Franklin's (19-7) record winning streak was halted at 10 games, with the Tigers (16-11-1) sweeping the contests by scores of 8-0 and 6-4.
Game One: DePauw 8 - Franklin 0
Game one saw the Tigers take advantage of five Griz errors while Franklin's offense managed just six hits in the game.
Eriana Wagner went 2-for-3 at the dish and was the only Grizzly with multiple hits.
Lauren Duncan (9-3) went six innings as the game one starter, giving up three earned runs with one walk and one strikeout.
Game Two: DePauw 6 - Franklin 4 (8 inn.)
The Franklin offense remained dormant until the sixth inning of game two, with
Kennedy Bond coming up with an RBI double to break the scoreless streak and cut the DePauw lead to 3-1.
Stephanni Kleber followed up with an RBI single to get the lead down to one, but DePauw got a run back in the seventh to double the lead and make it a 4-2 game.
Down to their last out in the seventh, Franklin got another huge piece of hitting from Bond, as she roped a two-run double to the left center field wall to send the game to extras. DePauw got two in their half of the eighth and Franklin was unable to match that in the bottom of the inning.
Bond and Kleber both finished the game with two hits. Kleber (5-3) made the start in the circle, going the distance and giving up four earned runs.
