RECAP | Grizzlies Sweep Weekend Series with Hope After Two Wins on Saturday

FRANKLIN – The Franklin baseball team finished off a weekend sweep of the Hope Flying Dutchmen, taking both ends of a double header at John P. McDowell Field on Saturday (Mar. 2).
 
The Grizzlies (4-2) rallied late to take the opener, 6-4. Game two saw the Grizzlies hold off Hope (0-4) by the slimmest of margins with an 8-7 victory.
 
Game One: Franklin 6 – Hope 4
Tysen Lipscomb got the Grizzlies even in the bottom of the third with an RBI single and Daniel Cross made it a 2-1 game later in the inning with an RBI single of his own. With the game tied in the bottom of the sixth, Andrew Wallace plated the go-ahead run with an RBI double to right field. Lipscomb tacked on to the lead with a two-run blast in the seventh and he added an RBI single in the eighth for an added insurance run.
 
Lipscomb went 4-for-5 with four runs knocked in to lead all players. Colby Reed scored twice while Cross and AJ Sanders had two hits each.
 
Jackson Young got the start and struck out five over five innings of three-hit ball. Luke Harmon (2-0) took over for the final four innings, scattering four hits to earn the decision.
 
Game Two: Franklin 8 – Hope 7
Down by a run in the bottom of the third, Franklin got three in the bottom of the inning with a two-run Sean Sullivan single and an RBI single from Garrett DeHart. Franklin blew up for four runs in the fifth with RBIs from Sanders and Dyllan Redmon with two runs also scoring on wild pitches.
 
Cross stretched the lead to 8-3 with and RBI ground out in the sixth, but the Flying Dutchmen fought back with three in the seventh and one in the ninth to get within a run. Sam Peck shut the door on the win, inducing a pop foul that Wallace hauled in for the final out.
 
Sanders and Reed had two hits each to pace the FC offense with Reed drawing three walks to reach all five times he came to bat. Dylan Sprong (1-1) got the win by tossing five innings of two-hit ball with five strikeouts. Peck earned his first save of the year with 2.2 innings of one-hit ball with three punch outs.
 
Up Next
The Grizzlies are back at McDowell Field next Saturday (Mar. 9) to open a three-game series with the Albion Britons. First pitch of the double header is set for noon.
