COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Franklin softball team brought their opening weekend to a close on Sunday (Feb. 18) with matchups against Millsaps and Mississippi University for Women.

The Grizzlies (3-1) picked up their second win over Millsaps in as many days with a 6-4 victory in game two. Franklin was denied a perfect weekend by the weekend's host, with The W taking game two in extras, 2-1.

Game One: Franklin 6 – Millsaps 4
Facing a one-run deficit after two innings, the heart of the Franklin order put the team in front in the third.
Molly Wallace opened the scoring with an RBI single and came in to score one batter later on a double from
Genesis Munoz to make it 2-1 Griz.

Millsaps went back in front with two runs in the third but the Grizzlies flipped the lead back in the top of the fourth courtesy of a pinch-hit two-run double from freshman
Karrsen Pruitt. Fellow freshman
Kendall Lowry added to the lead with an RBI single in the fifth to make it 5-3 and
Hannah Laughlin drove in a critical insurance run with a sac fly in the seventh to cap the scoring for the Grizzlies.

Abi Exl nailed down the final three outs to earn the save in her first career appearance in the circle.
Stephanni Kleber (2-0) tossed the first six innings, striking out five and surrendering three earned runs. Wallace, Munoz and Lowry all finished with two hits and the RBIs for Pruitt, Lowry and Laughlin were the first of their Franklin careers.

Game Two: Miss. University for Women 2 – Franklin 1 (8 inn.)
Franklin struck in their first trip to the plate, with Munoz knocking in
Eriana Wagner with a sac fly for the game's first run. But offense would be tough to come by for both teams the rest of the way and after Franklin let a chance to add insurance runs get away in the fifth, the Owls evened things up in the sixth.

Nothing was decided until the bottom of the eighth, when the Owls capped the comeback with a walk-off single.

Wagner went 2-for-3 at the plate and swiped two bags to lead the Franklin offense. Freshman
Lauren Duncan was brilliant in defeat in the circle, giving up one earned run on six hits with 10 strikeouts in a complete game effort.
