CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Franklin men's basketball team finished off the opening round of Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play on Wednesday (Dec. 18) night, taking on the Mount St. Joseph Lions in their second straight road contest.
The Grizzlies (6-3, 3-1 HCAC) notched their third win in a row, turning in a big second half to knock off the Lions (6-5, 2-2 HCAC) by a 69-58 score.
How it Happened
Franklin raced out to a fast start, taking a 12-5 lead in the game's first five minutes. The Grizzlies led by as many as eight points in the opening 20 minutes, but the Lions would get back to even by halftime and the teams headed into the break tied at 27. Both sides struggled shooting the ball in the opening half, as each side shot just a smidge above 34% from the field heading into the break.
The game stayed tight until midway through the second half, when Franklin grabbed control of the contest with a 17-0 run that turned a 42-40 deficit into a 57-42 lead with seven minutes to play. The Lions would get within nine points on a few occasions the rest of the night, but Franklin was able to cruise to victory thanks to the large run.
