SHELBYVILLE, Ind. – The Franklin men's cross country team took to the course at Blue River Park on Saturday (Nov. 2) afternoon for their second of three meets at their home course and the 2024 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Championships.
Franklin saw two runners collect all-conference honors as the Grizzlies finished the event in fourth place as a team with 107 points.
Senior
John Asplund became a four-time first team all-conference selection for the Grizzlies after leading the team in the 8K race with a time of 26:30.16 and a 12
th place finish. Freshman
William Hirsch picked up all-conference honors in his first league championship, taking 16
th place with a time of 26:35.29.
Junior
Trevor Newby placed third on the team and 30
th overall with a time of 27:20.18, followed by freshman
Zachary Schroeder in 35
th place with his time of 27:33.31. Junior
Riley Devening finished 39
th in 27:40.46 and
Jonah Decker took 45
th with a time of 28:04.03.
The Grizzlies have one more race on the schedule, with the 2024 Great Lakes Regional set to take place back at Blue River Park on Saturday, Nov. 16 with Franklin serving as event host.
