FRANKLIN – The Franklin women's basketball team left no doubt on their way to a 2-0 start to their season, with the Grizzlies hammering Olivet 90-54 on Wednesday (Nov. 13) night in the Spurlock Center.
The Grizzlies got a game-high 22 points from junior
Jordan Coon but the story of the night was the Franklin defense, as they forced 31 Olivet (1-1) turnovers that turned into 31 points at the other end of the floor.
Taylor Cooney added 21 points and
Payton Seay chipped in with 14 points in the win.
How it Happened
Down 8-7 with six minutes to go in the opening quarter, the Grizzlies finished off the opening quarter with a 16-2 run that was punctuated by a buzzer-beater from Seay that made it 23-10 after 10 minutes of play. The Comets got the deficit back to single digits at 33-25 with six minutes to go in the half, but Franklin would blow the game open with a 12-1 run to close out the opening half and make it 45-26 at the break.
The Grizzlies spent the rest of the night firmly in control, keeping their lead in double figures the rest of the night.

-Franklin shot 38.6% (32-for-83) from the floor, knocking down six threes and 20-of-25 free throws.
-The Grizzlies recorded 44 points in the paint, 28 fast break points and 24 points from the bench on the night.
-Defensively, the Grizzlies held Olivet to 35.4% (17-for-48) shooting and 2-for-11 from deep to go along with the 31 turnovers forced.
-Cooney and
Brooke Grinstead tied for the team lead with seven boards each, with the Grizzlies winning the rebounding battle by a 50-38 count.
