HANOVER, Ind. - The Franklin men's basketball team faced off with Hanover for the second time in seven days on Wednesday (Jan. 24) night, with the Grizzlies making the return trip to Collier Arena.
Four Grizzlies (9-9, 7-4 HCAC) finished the game in double figures, but Franklin couldn't finish off the regular season sweep of the Panthers (12-6, 8-3 HCAC) as Hanover won the game 83-72.
The game saw nine lead changes and a pair of ties in the first nine minutes of play, but Hanover took the lead for good with a 9-2 run that flipped the lead back in the home team's favor and allowed the Panthers to eventually take a 44-37 lead into the break. The Grizzlies stayed within striking distance and cut the Panthers' lead down to four at 66-62 with six minutes to play, but an 11-3 Hanover run opened up the gap and allowed Hanover to take the game.
Ryan Bostic led the way for the Grizzlies with 18 points and was joined in double figures by 14 from Jessie Morgan, 11 from
Malachi Archey and 10 from LeBron Bennie-Powell. Franklin shot 53.7% (29-for-54) from the floor to 46% (29-for-63) for the Panthers. But the three ball proved to be Hanover's go-to on the night, with the Panthers knocking down 16 threes to five for Franklin.
Lynn King grabbed 10 rebounds to lead all players as Hanover finished with a 37-27 edge on the glass. The Grizzlies held a 46-26 advantage on points in the paint and the Franklin bench had 29 points to 24 for Hanover reserves.
The Grizzlies are back at home on Saturday (Jan. 27) to begin a three-game homestand. First up is a meeting with the Defiance Yellow Jackets, with the opening tip set for 3:00 p.m.
