FRANKLIN – The Franklin men's tennis team brought their regular season to a close on Sunday (Apr. 23) afternoon, hosting the Earlham Quakers.
The Grizzlies (7-13, 3-3 HCAC) finished their campaign on a high note with a 9-0 sweep of the Quakers (1-9, 0-6 HCAC) to lock up the No. 4 seed in the upcoming Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) tournament.
Doubles play saw the Griz take both matchups and earn a point by default.
Lucas Densford and
Ezra Schwier claimed the first point with an 8-0 victory at No. 2 doubles while
Dustin Garrison and
Layton Stieneker followed with an 8-2 win at the top doubles position.
Singles play kicked off with a 6-0, 6-0 win from
Brian Vennemann at No. 4 singles, followed by
Owen Pickerill winning 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.
Nathan Jarboe tacked on another point with a 6-3, 6-1 win at one singles and Garrison closed things out with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at the second position in the lineup. Franklin picked up the final two points by default.
The Grizzlies will be the hosts for the opening round of the 2023 HCAC Tournament, which is set for begin on Wednesday (Apr. 26) afternoon. The start time from Grizzly Park is set to be announced in the coming days.
