FRANKLIN – The Franklin men's tennis team played for a spot in the semifinals of the 2023 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Tournament on Wednesday (Apr. 26) afternoon, hosting the Anderson Ravens in a quarterfinal matchup.
The Grizzlies couldn't make it two wins over the Ravens in a four-day stretch, as Anderson moved on to the semifinals with a 6-3 victory in a hard-fought battle.
Doubles play saw the No. 3 pairing of
Nathan Jarboe and
Shay Kyser take an 8-2 victory for Franklin's first point of the night. The No. 2 doubles matchup featured a battle with
Lucas Densford and
Owen Pickerill needing a tie-breaker to decide the final doubles point, but it went the way of the Ravens as Anderson took a 2-1 lead into singles action.
Pickerill claimed Franklin's first singles point with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles and Densford claimed a point at No. 4 singles with a lengthy 7-5, 2-6, 10-8 win. But the remaining four singles points all went to the Ravens in straight sets, bringing Franklin's season to an end.
The Grizzlies close out the year with a 7-14 overall record.
