RECAP | Offense Breaks Out as Softball Sweeps Bluffton to Reach 20-Win Mark

BLUFFTON, Ohio – The Franklin softball team hit the 20-win mark on Saturday (Apr. 15) afternoon with a conference double-header sweep of the Bluffton Beavers.
 
Franklin (20-8, 3-3 HCAC) scored 26 total runs and had 25 hits on the day, as they took a pair of six-inning wins by score of 14-1 and 12-3.
 
Game One: Franklin 14 – Bluffton 1 (6 inn.)
Genesis Munoz opened the scoring in the top of the first with a two-out RBI single but the game would stay at 1-0 until the top of the fourth when Franklin put up their first big number of the day. Eriana Wagner, Ravyn McClaren, Sydney Rodeghier and Sydney Bostic all had RBI hits as the Griz stretched their lead to 5-0.
 
McClaren padded the lead with an RBI double in the fifth and Franklin blew the game all the way open with an eight-run sixth frame. Munoz, McClaren and Shelby Crockett all had two-RBI hits and the Griz plated tow more runs on errors to cap the scoring.
 
McClaren went 3-for-3 with four runs knocked in and was one of six players to record multi-hit games. In the circle, Sydney Pitts (7-5) scattered six hits and allowed one unearned run with one walk and a pair of strikeouts.
 
Game Two: Franklin 12 – Bluffton 3 (6 inn.)
Annie Kluemper kicked off the scoring with a two-run home run in the top of the first inning but the Beavers answered with a run in the bottom of the inning to slice the lead in half. After a scoreless second frame, Franklin plated three more in the third with McClaren singling home a pair and another run scoring on an error to make it 5-1 after three frames.
 
Wagner stretched the lead in the fourth with a two-run home run, giving her a team-high five for the year. Kluemper and Bostic added to the lead with RBI hits in the fifth with Crockett and Kennedy Bond knocking in runs in the sixth to cap the scoring.
 
Kluemper led the offense with three RBI with Bostic, McClaren and Wagner knocking in two runs each. Molly Wallace scored three times to lead all players. In the circle, Stephanni Kleber (10-3) went the distance, striking out four and walking a pair.

Franklin is on the road on Tuesday (Apr. 18) afternoon for a pair of games with the University of Chicago. First pitch is set for 4:00 p.m. eastern time.
