LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Franklin baseball team opened up conference play on Saturday (Mar. 25) afternoon, taking on the Transylvania Pioneers.
The opener saw the Grizzlies (9-6, 0-1 HCAC) fall into an early hole and the Pioneers (8-9, 1-0 HCAC) rolling to an 11-0 win in the series opener.
A six-run third inning from the Pios blew the game open while Transylvania pitching held the Griz offense to just four hits.
Anthony Smith had two of those hits for FC with
Matt Earley and
Jonathan LaGuire also finding their way on base via knocks.
Dylan Sprong (2-1) took the loss, giving up six earned runs on six hits with four walks in two innings.
Will Butts and
Aidan Ray combined to work the final four innings in relief.
The two teams are back at it on Sunday (Mar. 26) with two games on tap starting at noon.
