RECAP | Grizzlies Secure Series win with Sunday Showing Against Albion

FRANKLIN – The Franklin baseball team was in search of a series win on Sunday (Mar. 12) when they hosted the Albion Britons for the final game of a three-game weekend set.

Three different Grizzlies (6-4) recorded multiple hits on the afternoon and senior Jackson Young gave the Grizzlies seven strong innings on the mound as they took down the Britons (1-10) 5-3 to capture the series.

Franklin busted out the wood for a pair of runs in the bottom of the first with Adam Taylor and Jonathan LaGuire both driving in runs for an early 2-0 lead. The Britons countered with two runs in the top of the third and the game hit a stalemate over the next several innings. Albion appeared to take the lead with a sac fly in the seventh, but a challenge on the play from the FC bench determined the runner left early and run was taken off the board.

The Grizzlies cashed in on the call in the bottom of the seventh, with Noah Wood crushing an RBI double to the fence that scored Tysen Lipscomb. Two batters later, Andrew Wallace doubled Wood home to double Franklin's lead. The Griz added an insurance run in the eighth with a bases loaded walk issued to Taylor and they held off a ninth-inning rally to seal the win.

Young (1-0) allowed two earned runs on four hits with three walks and a strikeout in a tidy 87-pitch outing. Maddox Manes recorded his second save of the year after working the final two innings on the hill.

Lipscomb and Sean Sullivan had three hits each for the Grizzlies and Wallace ripped a pair of doubles in five trips to the plate. Wood and Sullivan tied for the team lead with two runs each.

Franklin is back in action on Wednesday (Mar. 15) afternoon, hosting the Wilmington Quakers. First pitch at McDowell Field is set for 3:00 p.m.
