TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Franklin men's swimming and diving team sits in second place through the first two nights of the 2023 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Swimming & Diving Championships.
The Grizzlies have collected 288 points through the first two days and sit behind leaders Rose-Hulman and their total of 330 points to date. Franklin collected four gold medals and set a new program record over the first two days.
That new record came in the first relay of the weekend, with
Jack Burke,
Kyle Haflich,
Kosmo Wojack and
Campbell Coyle setting the program's top time in the 800 free relay in 6:51.30. That earned the quarter a runner-up finish and broke the previous record of 6:52.63 that had stood since 2015.
The first victory for the Griz men came on day two with senior
Vincent Fletcher edging out a tough field in the 50 free and a time of 21.21. In the same event, Coyle hit the wall in 21.31 to earn a third place finish and a bronze medal. Wojack turned in a solid showing in the 200 IM, clocking in at 1:51.95 to earn a silver medal in finishing just tenths of a second behind the top spot.
Both of Franklin's Thursday relay teams claimed gold, starting with the 200 free relay team of Coyle, Burke, Fletcher and
John Hasquin that recorded a time of 1:23.79. Burke, Wojack, Coyle and
Tyler Wood closed out the second day with a win in the 400 free relay and a time of 3:24.94.
In the first diving event of the weekend, senior
