FRANKLIN – The Franklin women's soccer team punched their ticket to the upcoming Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Tournament with a 2-1 win over Earlham College on Saturday (Oct. 21) night.
Katelyn Duff and
Lauren Barker scored first half goals for the Grizzlies (4-7-6, 3-3-2 HCAC) and the defense held Earlham (3-9-2, 2-5-1 HCAC) without a shot in the second half to earn a well-deserved victory.
How it Happened
Franklin's first shot of the game ended up in the back of the net with Duff getting the scoring going.
Amirah Curry lined up for a corner kick and delivered a perfect ball in that Duff headed past Earlham's keeper for the 1-0 lead just 8:02 in. But the lead didn't last long as the Quakers found an equalizer just 18 seconds after the opening goal.
Barker would put Franklin back in front in the 17
th minute, with the eventual game-winner started by an unlikely source.
Makenna Mundy played a goal kick deep into the Earlham end and Barker split two defenders to get to the loose ball and fire it into the net for her fourth of the year and the first assist of Mundy's career.
The Grizzly back line took care of the rest, keeping the Quakers without a shot attempt for the final 81:40.
Franklin closes out the regular season on Wednesday (Oct. 25) night, hosting the Transylvania Pioneers. Kick off from Faught Stadium is set for 7:00 p.m.
