HANOVER, Ind. – The Franklin men's soccer team picked up a critical Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) points on Wednesday (Oct. 11), picking up a 2-2 draw on the road against the Hanover Panthers.
Russell Bilohlavek and
Kameron Darnold scored second half goals for Franklin (3-7-3, 2-2-1 HCAC) but a late goal from the Panthers (5-7-1, 2-2-1 HCAC) led to a draw for the two sides and capped a wild final minute of game action.
How it Happened
Hanover took advantage of a 17
th minute penalty kick to take the lead and the home side held onto that advantage throughout the rest of the half. Hanover held a 10-5 edge on the shot clock and took a one-goal lead into the break.
The second half saw the Grizzlies pick up their intensity on the attack and it paid off in the 49
th minute. Bilohlavek started a counter attack by forcing a Hanover giveaway in the host's zone and finished the play by streaking into the Hanover box to slam home a
Jon Moore feed to tie the game.
The game stayed tied until the final minute when the Panthers' defense capsized under pressure from the Franklin attack.
Dany Escamilla knocked down a Franklin corner and slotted the ball over to Darnold and he hammered home his second goal of the year with 33 seconds to go for a 2-1 FC lead.
But the Panthers had some late heroics of their own stored up, scoring with 10 seconds to play with goal off of a rebound to cap a wild conclusion to the match.
