DANVILLE, Ky. – The Franklin men's swimming and diving team hit the pool for the first time in the new year, taking part in the Colonel Classic hosted by Centre College on Jan. 6-7.
The Grizzlies claimed seven event victories and brough home a runner-up finish with a team score of 576.5 points.
Two individuals walked away from the invitational with multiple event wins in juniors
Jack Burke and
Kosmo Wojack. Wojack took the top spot in the 400 IM (4:23.39) and the 200 butterfly (1:57.97) while adding a runner-up finish in the 200 IM (2:03.67). Burke was victorious in the 100 butterfly (52.11) and 200 backstroke (1:57.78) and he added a runner-up finish of his own in the 100 backstroke (53.40).
Franklin's relay teams turned in strong showings, claiming the 400 free relay in 3:18.30 and the 800 free relay with a time of 7:19.05 and adding runner-up finishes in the 200 free relay (1:29.23) and 400 medley relay (3:37.59).
The final Grizzly to claim first place was senior diver
Gauge Creech, whose score of 261.10 points on the one-meter board earned him the top spot.
Other notable finishes included:
- Campbell Coyle – 2nd place in the 200 free (1:46.92) and 500 free (4:58.70)
- Vincent Fletcher – 2nd place in 50 free (22.50)
- Tyler Wood – 2nd place in 1650 free (17:23.22)
- Kyle Haflich – 2nd place in 400 IM (4:31.03), 4th in 200 breaststroke (2:24.93)
- John Carter Chappell – 3rd in 200 breaststroke (2:24.42), 4th in 100 breaststroke (1:05.14)
- Cameron Baker – 3rd on 1 meter board (231.95)
- Logan Parker – 4th in 200 backstroke (2:05.54), 5th in 100 backstroke (57.57)
- Kameron Case – 5th in 1650 free (19:22.66)
