RECAP | Season-Best Shooting Performance Gives Griz Season Sweep of Earlham

RICHMOND, Ind. – Paced by two dominant quarters, another smothering defensive performance and a season-best shooting effort, the Franklin women's basketball team coasted to their second straight win and a season sweep of the Earlham Quakers on Thursday (Jan. 26) night.

The Grizzlies (8-9, 6-5 HCAC) shot a season-high 57.4% (31-for-54) from the field and limited the Quakers (2-15, 1-9 HCAC) to 25.4% (15-for-59) from the field in a 69-45 victory. It marks the third straight game the Grizzlies have held an opponent to under 30% shooting.

How it Happened
The Quakers held the lead for the bulk of the first quarter, but a late bucket from Maddie Barnes sent Franklin into the second with a 17-16 lead. Franklin grew their lead to double figures in the second quarter, holding Earlham to just a pair of field goals in the period and heading into the break with a 33-25 lead.

Franklin put the game out of reach with a dominant third quarter that saw them outscore the Quakers 24-8. The Grizzlies went 10-for-12 from the field during the third period and held Earlham to 1-for-15 shooting to seal the victory. The Griz extended their lead to the biggest of the night at 26 points midway through the fourth quarter.
