TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Franklin men's swimming and diving team hit the road for the final time in the regular season on Friday (Jan. 20) night, taking on conference rivals Rose-Hulman and Hanover.
The Grizzlies picked up two huge wins on the night, narrowly edging out Rose-Hulman 157-143 and rolling past Hanover 252-21 to move to 9-0-1 in head-to-head matchups this season.
Junior
Jack Burke continued his torrid pace in the pool with three individual wins on the night. The Fort Wayne, Ind.-native was tops in the 100 backstroke (53.87), 200 backstroke (1:56.62) and the 100 butterfly (51.93). Fellow junior
Kosmo Wojack picked up wins in the 200 butterfly (1:56.87) and 400 IM (4:17.85), the only other Griz swimmer to take multiple wins on the night.
Franklin got several other key contributions across the lineup to take down the Engineers. Sophomore
Campbell Coyle won the 200 free (1:45.70) and earned runner-up in the 100 free (48.14). The Grizzlies took the top spots in the 50 free with
Vincent Fletcher (21.94) taking first and
John Hasquin (22.05) placing second.
Logan Parker placed second in the 100 backstroke (55.13) and third in the 200 backstroke (2:00.14). Freshman
Tyler Wood was the runner-up in the 1000 free with a time of 10:19.09.
The 200 medley relay team of Parker, Wood, Wojack and Hasquin opened the night with a runner-up finish in 1:39.82. The dual with Rose came down to the final relay of the night that saw Coyle, Hasquin, Burke and Fletcher team up to take the 200 free relay in 1:26.09.
On the diving boards, senior
Gauge Creech rolled to wins on the one-meter (301.75) and three-meter (314.30) boards. Junior
Cameron Baker collected valuable points with runner-up finishes on both boards.
Franklin closes out the regular season next Saturday (Jan. 28) when they host Illinois Wesleyan on Senior Day at Franklin Middle School. Start time is set for 1:00 p.m.
