FRANKLIN – The Franklin men's basketball team used a dominant defensive effort to rack up their fourth win in a row, dominating Defiance 67-40 on Saturday (Jan. 21) afternoon in the Spurlock Center.
The Grizzlies (11-6, 7-3 HCAC) defense set season bests for points allowed and field goal percentage against, limiting the Yellow Jackets (5-12, 0-10 HCAC) to 27.9% (17-for-61) from the floor on the day. The 40 points allowed are the lowest by any Franklin team since Dec. 11, 1998 when Franklin surrendered 40 to Milwaukee School of Engineering.
How it Happened
After six lead changes in the opening three minutes, Franklin put the clamps down on Defiance the rest of the first half. Buoyed by 10-2 run midway through the half, Franklin took a 30-19 lead into the locker after holding the Yellow Jackets to 25% (8-for-32) from the floor in the opening 20 minutes.
The second half brought more of the same from the home side, as they continued to dominate Defiance's offense while Franklin's offensive attack went 13-for-21 from the field over the final 20 minutes.
