RECAP | Grizzlies Place Fourth at Wabash Gail Pebworth Invitational

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – The Franklin men's swimming and diving team faced off against a challenging field of teams over a three-day stretch at the Gail Pebworth Invitational, hosted by Wabash College on Nov. 18-20.
 
It was a strong showing for the Grizzlies over the long weekend as they placed fourth overall with 1,673.5 points, less than 10 points shy of overtaking the hosts Wabash for third place at the event.
 
All four of Franklin's 'A' relay teams placed in the top five, with the best finish coming from Jack Burke, Tyler Wood, Kosmo Wojack and Campbell Coyle in the 400 medley relay where they took second with a time of 3:26.65. Coyle, Wojack, Burke and Vincent Fletcher placed fourth in the 800 free relay in 7:05.68 and the 200 free and 200 medley relays each grabbed fifth place showings.
 
Individually, Wojack turned in a strong weekend over his four events, collecting two wins and advancing to the 'A' finals in all four races. His first win came in the 100 butterfly with a time of 49.52 and he would take the top spot in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:49.34, setting a new meet record in the event. Wojack added a third place showing in the 200 IM (1:53.77) and fifth place finish in the 100 breaststroke (58.75).
 
Fellow junior Burke picked up the Grizzlies' final win of the weekend, besting the field in the 200 backstroke in 1:50.84. Burke added runner-up finishes in the 200 IM (1:53.63) and the 100 backstroke (50.84) and a fourth place showing in the 200 free (1:45.29).
 
Freshman Wood appeared in four 'A' finals, taking second in the 200 breaststroke (2:08.28), fourth in the 1650 free (16:47.49), sixth in the 100 breaststroke (58.89) and ninth in the 500 free (4:50.22). Coyle also had four finishes in the 'A' finals, taking third in the 200 free (1:42.77), fourth in the 100 free (46.89), and eighth in both the 50 free (21.63) and 500 free (4:48.80).
 
Also earning top-10 overall finishes were Fletcher in the 100 IM (4th/54.43) and 50 free (9th/21.76), Kyle Haflich in the 400 IM (8th/4:21.65), 200 IM (10th/2:01.01) and 200 breaststroke (10th/2:17.01) and Logan Parker in the 200 backstroke (7th/2:00.06).
 
Senior Gauge Creech topped the Grizzly divers, grabbing third place on the three-meter board with 460.45 points and fourth on the one-meter board with 439.85 points.
 
The Grizzlies are off until Saturday, Dec. 3 when they welcome Hanover and Manchester to town for a conference tri-meet. Start time is set for 1:00 p.m.
