FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Franklin women's tennis team closed out their fall slate on a high note, taking a 5-4 win over Johnson University (TN) on Saturday (Oct. 22) afternoon.
The Grizzlies (4-7) rallied from a point down after singles play to best the Royals (3-3) by the slimmest of margins.
The team of
Kinley Harmon and
Brenna Atchison got Franklin on the board with an 8-4 win at the No. 3 spot in the doubles lineup. The Royals moved within a point of victory with wins at the No. 1 & 2 singles positions before the Grizzlies responded in impressive fashion.
Emma Back was a 6-1, 6-3 winner at No. 3 singles followed by
Maecee Terhune's 6-0, 6-1 win at the fourth spot. The final two matches needed a tie-breaker set to determine a winner with
Bethany Burton and
Samantha Schick coming through in the clutch. Burton won 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 from the fifth position while Schick took a 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 decision at the No. 6 position to seal the win.
The Grizzlies are off until the spring season, with the list of competitions set to be announced in the coming weeks.
