TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Franklin College men's swimming & diving team opened the 2022-23 season on Saturday (Oct. 15) afternoon at the Indiana DIII Invitational, hosted by Rose-Hulman.
The Grizzlies claimed wins in six of the day's 17 events and would finish second overall with 599 points, narrowly edging out DePauw and Wabash for second on the team leaderboard.
Junior
Jack Burke was the lone Griz swimmer to claim multiple event wins, grabbing first place in the 100 backstroke (54.25) and 200 backstroke (1:57.95) while adding a runner-up finish in the 100 IM (55.14). Senior
Vincent Fletcher snagged a first place finish in the 50 freestyle in 22.23 seconds and claimed runner-up in the 100 freestyle with a time of 48.76.
Junior
Kosmo Wojack picked up runner-up finishes in both the 200 butterfly (1:58.69) and the 200 IM (2:03.10).
Logan Parker finished just behind Burke in the 100 backstroke, taking second in 56.16. Burke, Wojack, Fletcher and
Kyle Haflich teamed up to take the top spot in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:36.73.
On the diving boards senior
Gauge Creech ran away with both events, taking first on the 1-meter board with 282.40 points and first on the 3-meter board with 299.45 points.
Franklin is back in the pool next Saturday (Oct. 22), heading to West Lafayette, Ind. for the Indiana Intercollegiate Meet.
