RECAP | Krause Reaches 1,000 Career Points, Sets Career High with 34 in Win Over Earlham

RICHMOND, Ind. – The Franklin College men's basketball team wrapped up a three-game road trip on Wednesday (Jan. 26) night with a matchup against the Earlham Quakers.

The night belonged to senior forward Matt Krause, who went off for a career-high 34 points while grabbing 12 rebounds to help propel the Grizzlies (9-9, 5-6 HCAC) to an 85-77 win over the Quakers (6-9, 2-6 HCAC). The West Lafayette, Ind.-native also became the latest Grizzly to hit the 1,000-point milestone in the win.

A back-and-forth first half saw 10 lead changes through the first 15 minutes of play and with 4:34 to play before halftime, the two sides were locked in a 31-31 tie. The rest of the first half belonged to Franklin, with the visitors closing out the half on a 16-4 run that led Franklin to a 47-35 lead after 20 minutes of play.

Franklin maintained a comfortable lead throughout the second half and led by as many as 16 points after a Carter Crowe jumper made it 74-58 with 6:04 to play. Earlham did their best to mount a furious rally before the final buzzer, getting within four in the final minute before a three-point play from Krause shut the door on a comeback.

-Krause surpassed the 30-point mark in a game for the first time in his career, going 12-for-23 from the field with a trio of three-pointers and knocking down all seven of his free throws. His previous career-high of 26 points was set early in the 2019-20 season.
-Sophomore Ty Wright played a big role in the win, going 9-for-15 from the field for 20 points while grabbing five boards. It was the sixth time this season Wright recorded at least 20 points in a game, and he has reached double figures in scoring in each of Franklin's last 17 games.
-Freshman Cody Samples played a career-high 35:55, recording 10 points and handing out a personal best seven assists.
-Franklin shot 51.6% (32-for-62) from the floor, knocking down 11 threes on the night.
-The Grizzlies won the rebounding battle by a 35-27 count.
