Box Score FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Franklin College men's soccer team had their sights set on back-to-back win on Sunday (Sept. 19) afternoon when they welcomed the Berea Mountaineers to Faught Stadium to close out a two-game homestand.
The Grizzlies (2-4) controlled the pace of play for most of the afternoon and after a scoreless first half, Franklin got two second half tallies to take a 2-0 win over Berea (1-4-1).
How it Happened
Franklin controlled play in the opening half with a 7-4 edge in shot attempts but Berea keeper Luis Macias was up to the task on five shots on goal.
Less than 10 minutes into the second half, Franklin got the ice-breaker when Dany Escamilla sent a cross in from the left wing that went deep into the box. Junior Ethan Baker fought off a Berea defender to get a head on it and send it into the top right corner for his first career goal.
In the 69th minute, the Grizzlies doubled their lead thanks to a brilliant shot by junior Dillon Neel. Freshman Bawi Phutin kept play alive in the offensive zone and tapped the ball to Neel, who let a rocket of a shot go that went off the crossbar and down across the goal line for his second goal in as many games.
