Box Score 2 COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Franklin College volleyball team was back at it on Saturday (Sept. 11) with two more matches at the Otterbein/Capital Invitational.
Both matchups ended in four-set defeats for the Grizzlies (4-4) with Heidelberg and Case Western Reserve playing the foe. After the tournament, senior libero Allison Thompson was named to the weekend's all-tournament team.
Match One: Heidelberg 3 – Franklin 1
The Grizzlies struggled to get their offensive attack going against Heidelberg, hitting .109 in the match. After falling behind by two games, the Grizzlies stayed alive with a 25-21 win in game three, but the Student Princes snuffed out a comeback bid with a win in the fourth game.
Sara Allen and Miranda Wilson tied for the team lead with 10 kills each, with Wilson adding 10 digs for her third straight double-double. Billie Jarrett finished with 31 assists and tied with Morgan Curtis for the team lead with 14 digs.
Match Two: Case Western Reserve 3 – Franklin 1
The Grizzlies got things started with a 25-22 win in the opening set, closing things out with back-to-back kills from Allen and Wilson. But the final three sets were all claimed by the Spartans, with Case Western taking wins 25-19, 25-16, 25-14.
Wilson turned in a 12-kill effort on the attack while Allen notched 10 put aways from the right side. Jarrett notched another double-double with 34 assists and a team-high 18 digs. Thompson dug up 17 balls while Curtis notched her second straight match with 14 digs.
Franklin is back in action on Tuesday (Sept. 14) night, when they head north to take on the Albion Britons. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
