GREENCASTLE, Ind. – On Wednesday (Sept. 1) night, the Franklin College volleyball team got their 2021 fall campaign underway with an in-state showdown against the DePauw Tigers.

The Grizzlies (0-1) got a double-double from freshman Miranda Wilson and double-digit digs from both Morgan Curtis and Allison Thompson. But the hosts would hold serve on their home court with DePauw (1-0) taking the match in straight sets 25-23, 25-19, 25-20.

How it Happened
Early in the first set, DePauw rattled off six straight points to take a 13-6 lead and would hold that until late in the set. A Billie Jarrett kill gave the Grizzlies a 20-19 lead, but DePauw would grab four of the next five points and hold on when a Grizzly attack error ended the first set.

Game two saw the Grizzlies run out to a 5-2 lead but the Tigers would battle back to tie up the pivotal second game at 15. DePauw would capitalize on six Franklin attack errors down the stretch, taking 10 of the final 14 points and a two-game lead.

With their backs against the wall, the Grizzlies rushed out to a 6-0 lead but once again, DePauw countered with a run of their own to even things up at 7-7. Down by a 9-7 score, the Tigers put some distance between the two sides with a 13-2 run. Franklin battled back valiantly to get as close as 23-20 late before the Tigers closed things out.

Inside the Box Score
-In her first career match, Wilson put down 10 kills and had 15 digs to lead the Grizzlies in both categories. Makalyn Miller added eight kills in her first career action and Chloe Holder had seven put aways and a team-best .214 attacking percentage.
-Thompson and Curtis both had 11 digs each on the Franklin back line. Holder added a career high eight digs and led the team with three blocks.
