Box Score LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Franklin women's soccer team traveled to Pat Deacon Stadium on Thursday (Apr. 8) night for their Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) post-season match with the Transylvania Pioneers.
Meeting for the second time in eight days, the Grizzlies and Pioneers put on another defensive showcase. After more than 213 scoreless minutes played between the two teams, Franklin's Dianna Rollag ended the game in double overtime to give Franklin a 1-0 victory.
How it Happened
The game's first shot on goal didn't come until the 21st minute when Franklin outside back Kinsey Price negated a Pioneer goal. The opening half would feature just one more shot on goal as well as a lengthy lightning delay and the two sides headed to the break in a scoreless draw with shots 6-1 in the Pioneers' favor.
The second 45 featured fewer weather delays but the same amount of shot attempts per team. Transy finished the half with three shots on target, all of which were turned aside by sophomore goalkeeper Brianna Rogers and the game headed to extra time. Rogers recorded one more save in overtime and in the 103rd minute, Rollag brought the game to an end when her free kick from 40 yards out missed every body in the box and bounced past Pioneer keeper Morgan Patton for the game-winner.
Rollag's second goal of the year was the first game-winner of her career. She was one of three Grizzlies with a shot attempt on the night along with Katelyn Duff and Jada Tooley. Rogers recorded her sixth clean sheet of the year, turning aside five Pioneer shots for the second game in a row.
The Grizzlies finish the 2021 spring season with a 5-2-1 record, recording points in each of their last five games to finish third in the league.
