Box Score FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Franklin College men's soccer team was back in action on Saturday (Mar. 13) afternoon, taking on the Mount St. Joseph Lions at Faught Stadium.
The Grizzlies (0-4) got the first career goal from Dany Escamilla but a pair of Lion (2-1) goals early in each half proved costly as the Lions left town with a 2-1 win.
How it Happened
Less than two minutes into the game, the Lions took the lead when Michael Abel was able to get in behind the Franklin defense and score the opener. The Grizzlies spent the rest of the first half in search of a response, pumping 11 shot attempts at the Mount goal in the first half but headed into the break down 1-0.
The Lions doubled their lead in the 55th minute, putting Franklin in an even bigger hole. But 10 minutes after the second Mount goal, Escamilla fought through two Lion defenders for the ball and beat Mount goalkeeper Gustavo Gutierrez for his first tally of the year.
Escamilla had a look at the tying goal in the 82nd minute but was turned away. The Grizzlies' last gasp on a corner kick in the dying seconds was unable to produce a scoring chance.
