LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Franklin women's basketball team concluded a brief two-game road trip on Friday (Feb. 5) night, taking on the Transylvania Pioneers in the first of back-to-back meetings between the teams.

The Grizzlies (4-2) fell into an early hole and never found their way back to even, falling to the Pioneers (7-5) by a 76-51 tally. Bayleigh Torrance topped the Grizzlies with 10 points, the only Franklin player to reach double figures on the night.

Transylvania grabbed the lead on the games first possession and sprinted out to an early 8-0 lead before three straight jumpers in the lane from Britney Ballard brought the Grizzlies within one possession. The final 3:23 of the opening period saw the Pioneers extend their lead with a 9-2 run, making it 17-8 after 10 minutes of play.

The Grizzlies hung right with the evening's hosts throughout the second quarter, getting within four at 25-21 with 3:21 to go in the half following two Lydia Henry free throws. But Transy's closed out the opening half on a hot streak, out-scoring the Grizzlies 14-5 to take a 39-26 lead into the break.

The second half saw Transylvania extend their lead further, out-scoring the Grizzlies 22-13 in the period and 15-12 in the fourth. Franklin shot 35.2% (19-for-54) on the night with the home side connecting on 46.0% (29-for-63) of their field goals. Rebounds were 46-31 in Franklin's favor, with freshman CiCi Bailey leading all players with a career-high eight boards.

Franklin and Transylvania will meet again on Saturday (Feb. 6) afternoon inside Franklin's Spurlock Center. Tip-off is set for 4:00 p.m.
