Box Score FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Franklin College volleyball team hosted their first league home match of the year on Saturday (Oct. 9) afternoon, welcoming the Bluffton Beavers to the Spurlock Center.
The Grizzlies (9-11, 1-2 HCAC) overwhelmed the Beavers (9-13, 1-2 HCAC) on the attack, hitting .206 as a team and having three players rack up double digit kills. The hosts forged a big comeback to close out a thrilling final set and earn a sweep 25-22, 25-20, 27-25.
How it Happened
After falling behind very early, Franklin rallied to take the lead for good with six straight points that made it 7-3. The Beavers tied things up three times later in the set before the hosts pulled away late and finished off the first game with a Miranda Wilson kill.
Bluffton took four of the first five point in game two but the Griz once again shook off the early deficit and took the lead for good after three straight unforced errors made it 16-14 Franklin. Sara Allen put the finishing touches on a game two win with her eighth kill of the day.
For the third straight set, the Beavers jumped out to an early lead and held match point at 24-22. Allen and Chloe Holder teamed up for three straight kills to take the lead and the Grizzlies complete the comeback with another kill from Holder and a Bluffton error.
Inside the Box Score
-It was a big day for Wilson, Holder and Allen as they all turned in big offensive afternoons. Wilson had a team-high 16 kills while Allen and Holder both added 11 with the latter leading the team with a .400 hitting percentage.
-Billie Jarrett handed out 44 assists and teamed with Holder to reject a pair of Bluffton attacks.
-The Grizzly back line was sensational, with four players racking up at least 10 digs. Allison Thompson's 18 led all Grizzly defenders with Maddie Holubik adding 12 and both Jarrett and Morgan Curtis recording 10 each.
