RECAP | Defense Forces Season-High 29 Turnovers in Win Over Rose-Hulman

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Franklin women's basketball team has established themselves as one of the most aggressive defensive teams in the league and on Wednesday (Jan. 22) night, they showed why with a season-best performance against Rose-Hulman.

The Grizzlies (10-5, 6-3 HCAC) forced a season-high 29 turnovers that turned into 33 points in their 67-50 win over the Engineers (2-14, 1-8 HCAC). It marked the second straight win for Franklin and the 11th straight game the Grizzlies have forced at least 20 turnovers. Wednesday night's win was also the first for the Grizzlies against the Engineers since Dec. 9, 2015.

Franklin wasted no time taking control of the game, jumping out to a 19-0 lead in the game's first six minutes. During that stretch, the Grizzlies' forced 11 Engineer mistakes and 13 in the opening period alone to take a 23-4 advantage into the second quarter.

The Grizzlies kept their foot on the gas in the second, taking their biggest lead of the night with 4:31 to go in the half when a Britney Ballard three made it 37-9. In total, the Grizzlies held Rose to 7-for-26 shooting with 17 first half turnovers and led 37-18 at the break.

Franklin maintained a comfortable lead throughout the third quarter with the Engineers only getting as close as 13 points the rest of the way. The Grizzlies limited Rose to 38% (19-for-50) shooting on the night, and end their first trip through conference play allowing HCAC foes to just 37.9% from the floor.

Bayleigh Walker led all players with 16 points, going 8-for-11 from the floor. Freshman Bayleigh Torrance chipped in with 11 points off the bench and Jenna Cowart added 10 points while totaling team-highs with six rebounds and four assists.

The Grizzlies controlled the game down low, pouring in 34 points to 18 for the Engineers. Franklin pulled down 40 boards in the game, giving them three straight contests with at least 40 rebounds and nine games total.

Franklin begins their second trip through the conference on Saturday (Jan. 25), when they head to Richmond, Ind. to take on the Earlham Quakers. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
