BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Senior goalkeeper Lexi Short stood on her head for the Franklin women's soccer team on Saturday (Sept. 7) night, earning her first clean sheet of the year.

The Avon, Ind.-native stopped 14 shots for the Grizzlies (0-3-1) in their match with Calvin College (0-3-1), matching a career-high for stops in a match and preserving a 0-0 draw.

Short was under fire early, as the Knight controlled possession for the majority of the first half. Calvin peppered the Franklin cage with 13 shot attempts and seven shots on goal in the opening half, but the ball refused to go into the net before the half ended. Midway through the second half, Short came up huge once again with back-to-back saves just second apart on a pair of different Calvin shooters.

Late in regulation, the Grizzlies nearly put home the winning goal when Taylor McDaniel generated a quality. She tried to go low right on Calvin keeper Amy Kliewer, but was turned aside in the 85th minute.

Each keeper needed to be at their best in overtime, as both Short and Kliewer denied scoring chances in the extra session. In double overtime, Short saved her best saves for the very end, stopping consecutive shots 10 second apart in the 107th minute to keep the game scoreless.

Calvin held a 31-6 advantage on the shot sheet and attempted 19 corner kicks on the night. McDaniel led Franklin with three shot attempts while Lilly Haines had a pair of shots.

The Grizzlies return to action at home on Tuesday (Sept. 10) night, when they welcome DePauw University to town for the start of a three-match homestand. Kick-off is set for 5:00 p.m.
