FRANKLIN, Ind. – A three-match homestand came to an end for the Franklin women's soccer team on Wednesday (Sept. 18) night, when the Grizzlies faced Denison University under the Faught Stadium lights.

The Grizzlies (0-6-1) fell behind the Big Red (2-3-3) early, conceding a goal in the opening 15 minutes. Set pieces would play a major role in the second half, as Denison netted two goals off loose balls in the crease, leading a 4-0 win.

The Big Red opened the scoring in the 12th minute, but Franklin was able to keep the game close thanks to a sterling effort in goal by senior Lexi Short. The Avon, Ind.-native turned aside six Denison shots in the opening half, keeping the deficit at 1-0 after 45 minutes of play.

Less than a minute into the second half, the Grizzlies nearly tied the game when Lilly Haines forced the Big Red keeper to make a tough save on a shot in tight. A few minutes later, Jalynn Gorman had a quality look inside the box, but a late stretch by a Denison defender forced her shot wide of the cage. Dension added goals in the 66th, 78th and 89th minutes, respectively.

Short finished the night with nine saves, giving her three games this year with at least nine stops. Haines, Gorman, Taylor McDaniel and Elaina Page were the benefactors of Franklin's best scoring chances of the night as each finished with at least one scoring attempt.

Franklin opens a five-match road swing on Saturday (Sept. 21) afternoon, heading to Gambier, Ohio to take on Kenyon College. Kick-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
