RECAP | Balanced Offensive Attack Helps Grizzlies Collect Fourth Straight Win

Box Score

HANOVER, Ind. – On the opening night of the Hanover Volleyball Invitational, the Franklin volleyball team used a balanced offensive attack to rally from a set down to knock off Adrian College in four sets and extend their winning streak to four matches.

The Grizzlies (7-3) got at least eight kills from five different players, including a team-high 12 from sophomore Timber Falin. As a whole, the team hit .234 and held the Bulldogs (6-4) to .061 hitting over the final three sets.

After dropping the opening game 25-20, the Grizzlies fell behind early in the second set before flipping momentum in their favor with a 10-1 run that gave them a 14-7 lead. The Bulldogs wouldn't get within three points for the rest of the set, closing out the set with four straight points to earn a 25-18 win.

In the pivotal third game, neither side was able to separate themselves from the other until the Bulldogs took an 18-15 lead late. But the rest of the set belonged to Franklin, as they stormed back with a 10-2 run to close out a 25-20 game three win that put them on the cusp of victory.

Franklin never trailed in the final set, taking four of the first five points to open up an early lead. Adrian answered to even the final game at 9-9, but the Bulldogs fell to a wave of offense from the Grizzlies that featured a 15-4 run that ultimately led to a 25-17 win that closed out victory for the Grizzlies.

Kyra Harvey, Jenna Spini and Abby Sewell chipped in with nine kills each while Kyndall Boyll had eight successful attacks on the outside. Feeding the Franklin attackers all night was freshman setter Billie Jarret, who collected 44 assists on the night, giving her three matches this year with at least 40 helpers.

Sophomore libero Allison Thompson and senior Kylie Paul anchored the Franklin back line with 21 and 15 digs, respectively. At the front of the net, Falin, Sewell and Spini all recorded a pair of blocks. Freshman Morgan Curtis set new season highs with three aces and seven digs.

Franklin aims for two more wins on Saturday (Sept. 14) when they wrap up play at the Hanover Invitational. The Grizzlies meet Capital University at 10:00 a.m. before tangling with Trine University at noon.
