Box Score

FRANKLIN, Ind. – Following three straight matches away from home, the Franklin volleyball team was happy to be back at home on Tuesday (Sept. 18) night for a meeting with the Pomeroys of St. Mary-of-the-Woods.

After dropping the opening set, the Grizzlies (5-7) rallied to take three of the final four sets, including a thriller in the deciding match to earn a 3-2 win.

The Pomeroys jumped out to an early lead while the Grizzlies struggled to find their swing, taking the opening set 25-20. Franklin would answer with their best set on the attack in game two, swinging at a .216 clip and recording 13 kills to take a 25-22 win.

Game three was grind with both teams exchanging several leads and after four straight Pomeroy points, the set sat at 21-20 in favor of Franklin late. Following a Franklin timeout, the Grizzlies got two kills from Kyra Harvey, one kill from Abigail Sewell and an ace from Allison Thompson to finish off a 25-20 game three win.

The guests kept the match alive with a strong performance in game four, hitting .224 in the set on their way to a 25-18 win. They kept that momentum going into the fifth set, jumping out to a 7-4 lead before a 6-0 Franklin run shifted momentum back their way. A thunderous kill from Harvey closed out a 15-13 win in the deciding set, moving Franklin to a perfect 2-0 on their home floor in 2018.

Harvey paced the Grizzlies with 16 kills on a team-high 54 attack attempts. Kyndall Boyll recorded her second double-double of the year with 12 kills and 10 digs while Sewell added 11 kills. They were all recipients of some quality passing from sophomore Mackenzie Waldran, who set a new personal best with 46 assists.

Defensively, Libby Stahl dug up a season-high 31 balls, followed by 19 digs from freshman Allison Thompson. The net-front defense produced 11 blocks, with three rejections from Timber Falin leading all Franklin players.

Next up for the Grizzlies is a trip to North Manchester, Ind. on Saturday (Sept. 22). The Grizzlies will take on Manchester at 11:00 a.m. in their first HCAC contest of the year, followed by a meeting with Baldwin Wallace at 1:00 p.m.
