Baseball Team Cruises Past Wilmington

FRANKLIN, Ind. (March 11, 2017) – The Franklin College baseball team rolled to a 9-1 win Saturday afternoon against visiting Wilmington College.

The Grizzlies trailed 1-0 after four innings but scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth, one in the bottom of the sixth and five in the bottom of the seventh to secure the win and improve to 5-3 on the season.

Franklin tallied 12 hits and got RBIs from seven different players, including two by right fielder Jarrod Smith. Smith was 3 for 4 on the day with a double and a home run.

Catcher Jackson Freed went 3 for 3 with an RBI and third baseman Frank Podkul was 2 for 5 with two RBIs.

Pitcher Mitchell Caster worked seven innings and picked up the win. He gave up only two hits and struck out seven to improve to 3-0.

The Grizzlies return to action Sunday for a doubleheader against Wilmington (2-4). The first game starts at 1 p.m.
