Women's basketball defeats Manchester in 2017 home opener

FRANKLIN, IN.- The Franklin College women's basketball team defeated Manchester University 59-41 Wednesday night inside the Spurlock Center.

The Grizzlies earned another HCAC victory, raising their conference record to 3-1 and evening their overall record to 5-5. Leading the way for Franklin was senior guard Lauren DeSutter with a game-high 17 points. She shot 50 percent from the field and a perfect 7 of 7 from the free throw line. Amber May contributed 7 points and 7 rebounds off the bench. Sarah Taylor and Riley Achenbach each tallied 8 points.

Franklin's defense held the Spartans to 31.9 percent shooting percentage on the night and forced 18 turnovers. Manchester was led by Beth Schaefer, who finished with 10 points and 6 rebounds. The Spartans also struggled from behind the arc, shooting 16.7 percent.

The Grizzlies tip-off again on Saturday in an HCAC men's/women's doubleheader against Mount Saint Joseph beginning at 1 p.m.
