Women's Basketball falls to HCAC foe Transylvania

Box Score

FRANKLIN, Ind. - The Franklin College women's basketball team lost their second straight conference game to Transylvania 72-52 Wednesday night inside the Spurlock Center.

After a slow start, the Grizzlies cut a 16-point deficit to three points with three seconds to go in the first half, but Transy answered with a last-second three-pointer to bring the score to 34-28 at the break. Franklin started strong in the second half, holding the Pioneers to a two-point lead for most of the third quarter. Transy turned it on offensively in the fourth quarter and pulled away for the win.

Leading the way for the Grizzlies was Kayle Comer with 10 points. Lauren DeSutter added nine points. Emily Alfrey was big on the boards against a physical Transy squad with nine rebounds and four points.

With the loss, Franklin slips to 6-7 overall and 4-3 in the HCAC.

The Pioneers dominated the boards by a 44-28 margin. Second chance points and efficiency behind the arc made the difference tonight for Transy, which recorded 13 three-point shots. Leading the Pioneers was Celia Kline, who tallied 19 points, made five three-pointers and grabbed five rebounds. Reigning HCAC Player of the Week Rachel Cox finished the night with 16 points and six rebounds.

The Grizzlies have yet another HCAC face-off this weekend when they travel to Anderson for a men's and women's doubleheader.
