Men's Soccer's Rally Falls Short at Birmingham-Southern

Birmingham, Ala. - The Franklin College men's soccer team scored a goal in 68th minute to get within one goal, but could not complete the comeback in a 3-1 loss at Birmingham-Southern College on Sunday.

The match marked the first for the Grizzlies in the PUMA Labor Day Classic in Alabama. Franklin battles the University of South-Sewanee on Monday, September 5 at 1 p.m.

Birmingham-Southern (2-0) scored twice within a seven-minute span late in the first half to hold a 2-0 advantage at intermission.

Franklin (0-1-1) found the back of the net midway through the second half as senior Kendall Davis scored after receiving a pass from freshman Tyler Sander. The hosts added an insurance goal in the 80th minute to secure the victory.

Junior goalkeeper Garrett Belden made 11 saves in the match, including eight during the second half.
