Men's Soccer Loses Hard-Fought OT Contest to Spalding

Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College men's soccer team scored five minutes into the second half, but visiting Spalding University tallied the final two goals to pick up a 2-1 overtime victory on Sunday afternoon from Faught Stadium.

The men's soccer program honored an alum and loyal supporter of the program in the Daniel Schuetz Community Day Match. Sunday marked the fourth consecutive season the Grizzlies have played a match in his honor.

Freshman Mason May broke the scoreless match five minutes into the second half to tally his first collegiate match. The Grizzlies got a two-on-one advantage and freshman Conrad Bomber provided the leading pass for May to find the back of the net.

Spalding squared match in the 75th minute on an unassisted goal from Kornell Hilliard. He later scored the game winner in the first overtime period.

Seven of Franklin's nine shots were on goal, while Spalding also attempted seven shots on goal from its 19 total shots.

May led Franklin's effort with three shots, while sophomore Luke Oliver and freshman Tyler Majeski each recorded two shots in the match.

Junior goalkeeper Garrett Belden recorded five shots, including four during the second half.

Franklin returns to action on Saturday, September 24 at 3 p.m. when it travels to Berea College for its non-conference finale.
