Indianapolis, Ind. - The No. 19-ranked Franklin College lost its non-conference finale 59-14 to NCAA Division I-FCS non-scholarship Butler University on Saturday evening.

Butler (1-1) scored on three of its four drives to grab a 21-0 lead after the first quarter. The Bulldogs scored their last touchdown of the opening period during a 10-play, 70-yard drive with 1:30 remaining.

Franklin, ranked No. 19 in the D3football.com Top 25 poll, got on the scoreboard in the second quarter on a 30-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Chase Burton to junior wingback Lee Wroblewski at the 11:23 mark. The score was set up by a turnover as senior defensive Luke Clapp recorded an interception near midfield.

The Grizzlies (1-1) scored another touchdown through the air on their next possession to cut the deficit to 28-14 with 7:17 left in the first half. Burton hooked up with junior split end Deontez Alexander on a 28-yard pass. The play capped a six-play, 67-yard scoring drive.

Butler added two touchdowns in the final 1:59 of the first half to take a 42-14 lead into halftime.

Burton threw for 247 yards and two scores in the game. Junior wingback Darrell Crenshaw caught a team-high eight passes for 134 yards. Wroblewski added seven receptions for 64 yards and one touchdown.

Butler quarterback Malcolm Weaver completed 16 of 23 passes for 260 yards and three touchdowns in the victory.

Franklin returns to action on Saturday, September 17 at 1:30 p.m. when it opens Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play at Defiance College.
