Washington Scores 1,000th Career Point in Men's Basketball Win over Hanover

Franklin, Ind. - Franklin College senior Trae Washington (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington South) scored his 1,000th career point as the men's basketball team earned an 83-71 victory over Hanover College during Bankers Rivalry Night on Wednesday in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) action from the Spurlock Center.

Franklin used a 13-2 run late in the contest to take a 12-point lead, 75-63, with 1:38 remaining. A three-point field goal by junior Brett McCory (Vallonia, Ind./Brownstown Central) jumpstarted the run. Franklin led 62-61 with 4:15 remaining. The Grizzlies took a 68-61 advantage after a three-point play by junior Aaron Mann (Indianapolis, Ind./Howe) at the 3:23 mark. McCory made two free throws before connecting on another three-point field goal to give Franklin a 73-63 lead with 2:29 left. He later added a layup to cap the offensive run.

McCory scored 10 of his 15 points during the late run. Mann scored a game-high 26 points and made four of his six three-point field goal attempts. Washington tallied 19 points, six assists, and five rebounds in the victory.

Franklin led 34-30 at the half after making eight of 13 three-point field goal attempts. For the game the Grizzlies made 14 three-point field goals.

The hosts made four three-point field goals during a 14-5 run to open the game. Hanover would tie the contest at 24-24 with 4:41 remaining in the first half after two free throws by Christian Evans. Franklin regained the lead and stretch it to six points, 34-28, following a three pointer by Mann with 1:54 left in the first half.

Franklin returns to action on Saturday, February 13, at 3 p.m. when it hosts Mount St. Joseph University on Senior Day. The men's basketball program will honor seniors Matt Niehoff (Rushville, Ind./Rushville), Washington, and support staff members prior to tipoff.
