Men's Soccer Records First HCAC Victory, Defeats Bluffton

Bluffton, Ohio - The Franklin College men's soccer team evened its Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) record through three matches following a commanding 4-0 road victory against Bluffton University on Saturday.

The Grizzlies (1-6-4, 1-1-1 HCAC) scored three first-half goals and added a late tally.

Senior Antonio Gioe netted his second goal of the season in the 17th minute to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. Senior Logan McNamee set up the scoring chance midway through the period.

Three minutes later, sophomore Luke Oliver scored his team-leading fourth goal after receiving a pass from freshman Mason May to give Franklin a 2-0 advantage. Two own goals by Bluffton in the 43rd and 89th minutes capped the scoring in the match.

Franklin held an 18-8 shot advantage in the match and attempted 10 corner kicks. Freshman Conrad Bomber led the Grizzlies with six shots, while Oliver attempted four shots in the victory. Gioe rounded out the offensive attack with three shots.

Junior goalkeeper Garrett Belden made two saves in recording the shutout.

Franklin begins a four-match home stand when it hosts Manchester University on Wednesday, October 12 at 7:30 p.m. from Faught Stadium.
