Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College women's soccer team remained in a first-place tie in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) behind a 1-0 victory against Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Wednesday from Faught Stadium.

Freshman Taylor McDaniel scored midway through the second half for the only goal of the match.

Franklin (14-3, 7-1 HCAC) is tied with Hanover College atop the league standings with 7-1 league records heading into Saturday's regular-season finale. The Grizzlies defeated Hanover 2-0 in the second conference match of the league season.

Rose-Hulman and Mount St. Joseph University are tied for third place with 6-2 HCAC records.

McDaniel split two defenders and drilled a shot from the edge the 18-yard box into the upper left corner of the net.

Franklin held a 17-5 shot advantage, including a 7-2 edge in shots on goal. Junior Clare Lenart registered a match-high five shots, while sophomore Maddie Fleet and freshman Jalynn Gorman each had three shots in the match.

Freshman goalkeeper Lexi Short recorded her seventh shutout of the season by making two saves over the 90 minutes.

Franklin concludes the regular season on Saturday, October 29 at 1 p.m. when it travels to Anderson University. A victory ensures the Grizzlies the top seed in next week's HCAC tournament. Hanover hosts Rose-Hulman on Saturday.
