Box Score North Manchester, Ind. - Manchester University converted 16 of 18 free throw attempts during the overtime session to defeat the Franklin College men's basketball team 105-87 on Wednesday in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play.
The game marked the third overtime contest on the season for the Grizzlies.
Franklin shot 50 percent and connected on six three-point field goals in the second half to force the extra session. Manchester led 41-37 at halftime.
Senior Trae Washington (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington South) scored a season-high 27 points for Franklin. The guard was one of five double-figure scorers in the contest. Junior Aaron Mann (Indianapolis, Ind./Howe) scored 18 points and had seven rebounds. Junior John Beineke (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) scored 13 points, while senior Matt Niehoff (Rushville, Ind./Rushville) added 11 points. Junior Brett McCory (Vallonia, Ind./Brownstown Central) came off the bench to score 10 points.
Manchester hit consecutive three-point field goals in overtime to take an 87-81 lead. The Spartans did not look back after the early surge and made 16 of their 39 free throws in overtime to pick up the victory.
Franklin returns to action on Saturday, January 30, at 2 p.m. against Earlham College from the Spurlock Center. The game will be Alumni Day and also National Basketball Coaches Association's "Coaches vs. Cancer" game.
