Franklin, Ind. - Two late first-half goals paved the way for the Franklin College men's soccer team to earn a 2-1 win over Berea College (Kentucky) on Friday night at Faught Stadium.

The Grizzlies (3-3) have now won three straight home matches, including two matches at last weekend's Daniel Schuetz Community Classic.

Franklin got on the scoreboard in the 38th minute when freshman Lawton Hammack (Martinsville, Ind./Martinsville) beat the Berea goalkeeper, following a throw in deep in the offensive zone. Freshman Sam Stallsmith (Cicero, Ind./Hamilton Heights) set up the scoring chance with the throw to the middle of the 18-yard box.

Three minutes later, senior Ian Mullen (Miamisburg, Ohio/Miamisburg) gave the Grizzlies a 2-0 lead with a shot from 20 yards away that sneaked inside Berea's left goal post.

The Grizzlies also twice hit the post with shots in the second half.

Berea (3-5) cut the deficit in half on a goal by Million Beshah with eight minutes remaining in the match. However, the Grizzlies maintained possession in the closing minutes to secure the victory.

Franklin held a decisive 18-5 shot advantage in the match, including a 7-2 margin in shots on goal. Senior Austin Fundenberger (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) attempted a match-high eight shots. Freshman Blaine Fuhs (Washington, Ind./Washington Catholic) had three shots in the victory.

Franklin returns to the pitch on Sunday, September 20, at 2 p.m. when it travels to the University of Mount Union.
